Grand Rapids, MI indie outfit Pretoria continue to beef up their musical resume with the release of not one, but two singles last week titled "I Blew It/Roller Derby". Both of the songs are masterpieces in their own right, but they each have their own unique and succinct styles that it's almost impossible to pick a favorite. "I Blew It" has a slight R&B/soul edge to it, with dimly lit guitar melodies and singer/bassist Rob Gullett's vocals reaching new levels of majestic beauty that we've been seeing flashes of in past releases. The masterful guitar work of Josh Bilisko, Matt Pavlock, and Matt Burdick make this song really sizzle as it is one of the more slower, downtempo songs that they've put out as of late. "Roller Derby" is another terrific track, with drummer Ben DeWitt setting everything ablaze with his genius drum work that make this tune a real crowd pleaser, and allows you to get a glimpse of different facets of the band's personality in one fell swoop. I've been a huge fanboy of the guys going back to when I first featured them on the site back in 2019, and I honestly fall more in love with the band each and every time with their sheer beauty and epic musicianship. It's hard to fathom how these guys sound so darn impeccable, but I'm so proud to know the guys personally as they're one of my favorite bands that I've ever come across, and I'm eager as hell to check them out live in concert sometime soon.
