Fall 2024 New Music Preview

With the influx of new albums being released this fall, I prepped a handy guide to highlight some of the albums making their way into listeners lives this fall. The guide features new albums from Blackpool, UK's Boston Manor, Nada Surf's first album in 4 years, plus new ones from MN's own Hippo Campus, Trash Boat, and the highly anticipated new album from Shawn Mendes. And without further ado, here are some albums you should consider picking up on vinyl or on streaming this fall:

Troy Cartwright - Bygones (Aug. 30)

Dallas, TX native Troy Cartwright is gearing for the release of his sophomore album "Bygones". The follow up to 2021's "Halfway to Houston" finds Troy digging deeper than ever before with his trademark vocals and introspective songwriting that have made him one of the most prolific up and coming country artists out there right now. Troy also spent some time here in Boston having attended Berklee College of Music, and he's also been a constant presence here on the site and after interviewing him several times over the years, I find him to be a beautiful and comforting presence who knows how to bring out the best in everyone he works with on stage and on record, and those he meets after a show.

Boston Manor - Sundiver (Sept. 6)

Blackpool, UK's Boston Manor are back at it with their fifith studio album Sundiver. The guys have evolved greatly from their Brand New era emo phase exhibited on their 2015 debut LP "Be Nothing". On this new effort, the band have evolved into a Deftones-esque styled sound with frontman Henry Cox's dynamic vocals hitting new heights of greatness, and the impeccable guitar work of Mike Cunniff, his brother Daniel on bass, Ash Wilson on rhythm guitar, and Jordan Pugh on bass. I was the first music site in the U.S. to write about these guys, so they have a little bit of a history here and will be crafting an even larger legacy with the release of this record.

Nada Surf - Moon Mirror (Sept. 13)

90's indie rock legends Nada Surf are back with their first studio album in 4 years titled Moon Mirror. Best well known for their 1996 single "Popular", these guys hit the public consciousness immediately in a big way, were dropped from their record label and then made a huge comeback effort in 2002 with their masterful effort "Let Go". On their latest release, the band cuts deeper and hearkens back to that same album with outstanding melodies and top notch songwriting that has made frontman Matthew Caws and company even more relevant now than ever before.

Hippo Campus - Flood (Sept. 20)

Minneapolis based indie rock youngsters Hippo Campus are back with their 4th studio release titled "Flood". There has been a huge buzz surrounding this album, with the singles released ahead of the albums release including "Everything At Once" and "Paranoid" immediately igniting a spark within everyone's hearts (myself included). If those songs are any indication, this album will factor in quite heavily to 'Best Of' year-end lists when the year is through, so don't count these guys out as they have a tendency to steal fans hearts and run away with them.

Delights - If Heaven Looks A Little Like This (Sept. 27)

Liverpool, UK based indie dance-pop darlings Delights are about to hit the scene with their full length debut album, "If Heaven Looks A Little Like This". The follow up to their 2022 EP "Cool Sports" finds the lovely lads upping the ante with heavy groove laden anthems and a bold, fresh look that will open up listeners from both sides of the pond to what they're truly musically capable of. I've interviewed them for my podcast before, and they're tremendously talented human beings who know how to put a smile on listeners faces and become part of their inner circle.

Trash Boat - Heaven Can Wait (Oct. 4)

St. Albans UK based emo-rock pioneers Trash Boat are back with their 4th studio album titled "Heaven Can Wait". This album sees Tobi Duncan and the lads bring their dark edged emo that they displayed with such veracity on their prior album 2021's "Don't You Feel Amazing?" that had an industrial rock sound similar to Nine Inch Nails. This album sees the band returning to their emo roots, and really tap into their true potential as a band that is growing at an exponential rate at this point.

Shawn Mendes - Shawn (Oct. 18)

Rounding out our list is the highly anticipated 5th studio album from Toronto, Canada's own Shawn Mendes. This album promises to be the one that cements Shawn as the best male vocalist out there today with his introspective songwriting and insatiable rhythms really shaking people to the core inside and out. The leadoff first single 'Why Why Why" and "Isn't That Enough" promises to inspire and enthrall fans even more, proving that Shawn can connect with listeners that no other artist can.
