Radio 92.9 Changes Over To Alt 92.9

You may have noticed a slight change on your radio dial yesterday when Radio 92.9 completed their changeover to Alt 92.9. The change has apparently been in the works for a couple of years now, and the full name branding change took place yesterday with the website and social media links reflecting the name change. Before Radio 92.9, the station was known as WBOS (which are the same call letters the station uses today) which mostly played AAA music and catered to an older audience. Radio 92.9 came along in January 2008, and pegged itself as a DJ-less format playing mostly alternative music which is mostly the same as it is today albeit playing Pearl Jam and Nirvana every 5 minutes it seems!

The station currently is running an hour of non-stop music followed by a very long 10 minute ad break in between which may turn some people off and go on the dial elsewhere. I've never been an avid fan of 92.9 as I mostly turn to 92.5 The River for my music listening needs. While it does provide some diversity on the FM dial, I don't really notice much of a change in the music they play which may prevent me from listening regularly. If they really want to make an impact, they should start by playing some older alternative music, such as The Pixies, Talking Heads, The Cure, etc. and then you'll have a greater share of the established listener base tuning into your station because you have something else to offer that the other stations can't.
