With roots in Austin, TX singer-songwriter Matthew Logan Vasquez is gearing up for a big show at the end of the month on April 28th, when he graces the stage at Mid East Upstairs along with Mail The Horse. You may remember Matthew from his time in the indie band Delta Spirit, and now he's stepping out on his own with his solo venture that sees him expanding his brilliant songwriting and poetic imagery that conjures up musical images and melodies abound that make you grateful to hear such majestic beauty. I only remember hearing of his previous band in passing, but Matthew has a very straightforward and simple way about him that is easy to fall in line with his music that has that punching hook to reel you in, and makes you focus intently on his musical message and what he's trying to convey directly to you. It's that sort of impersonal, direct way of communication that is noticeably absent in music today, and it's great that people like Matthew are keeping that musical spirit alive with his brilliant performing that shows him stepping into his comfort zone where he really shines brightly.
