By now you're probably fully ensconced in the phenomenon that is "Heated Rivalry", the show about two professional hockey players falling in love that quickly turned into a cultural phenomenon, and spawned countless merch knockoffs, memes, quotes, and generated even more love for the game of hockey itself. I was fully hooked on the show from the start, not just for its storyline involving the characters Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, but for the show's ability to incorporate music into its storyline and dialogue, making the emotion that much more palpable and really making you feel the wave of energy flowing through each and every scene on the show.
One song that enjoyed a resurgence was t.A.T.u's 2003 hit single "All The Things She Said" that really exemplifies the fusion of music and intimate storytelling. It's all about picking the right songs to go along with the soundtrack, not just any song will do and the curation of these songs was exquisite to say the least. If it was just instrumentals that were incorporated instead, the show wouldn't have worked the way it has now. And being a Canadian show, many artists from our neighbors of the North are featured on there including Feist and Wolf Parade to name a few, with loads of songs getting huge increases in streams and some becoming viral hits in the process. To experience all the music in one fell swoop, check out my Apple Music playlist of all the songs in Heated Rivalry while you're at the cottage along with your tuna melt and Blue Moon Over Brooklyn:
